Physical Activity Inclusion in Dementia Friendly Communities

Overview

This poster provides an overview of a research project exploring physical activity inclusion in Dementia Friendly Communities (DFCs). This mixed-method study builds on a national evaluation of DFCs (DEMCOM study; Buckner et al., 2022, Goodman et al., 2020), focusing specifically on how they enable people living with dementia to participate in physical activity. Reported are the key findings from an online survey with DFC leads in England and interviews with key stakeholders from three case study DFC sites. Policy recommendations are provided, in addition to evidence of impact from the project. Attached is a free online resource, developed in consultation with people affected by dementia, that can be used as a template, and adapted, by service providers to promote dementia-friendly activities within a variety of settings.
